SOPHIA restarts! With the birthday coming up, the reunion concert is finally just a few months away.
Mitsuru Matsuoka celebrated his 51st birthday on August 12, 2022. He updated his Twitter page to report his birthday. Said Matsuoka, “I received 60 million yen. What will you buy?” Having said that, he did not receive 60 million yen, but a birthday cake with a bill motif. How mischievous!

With such a mischievous side, Mitsuru Matsuoka is the vocalist of the rock band SOPHIA. The band made its major debut in 1995 and quickly became popular for its fresh looks and pop music. After going on hiatus in 2013, it has been announced that the band will return to perform live concert at the Nippon Budokan on October 11, 2022, nine years after their hiatus.

Mitsuru Matsuoka’s grandfather-in-law was Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa!
It may come as a surprise to some, but Mitsuru Matsuoka is related to Akira Kurosawa, a master film director famous for the movie “The Seven Samurai” (1954)! In 2002, he married Yu Kurosawa, a former actress and grandson of Akira Kurosawa. For Mitsuru Matsuoka, Akira Kurosawa is his grandfather-in-law.
Mitsuru Matsuoka is not only a singer but also an actor. In the movie “Masked Rider W FOREVER AtoZ / Gaia Memory of Fate,” he played the role of Katsumi Omichi / Masked Rider Eternal, which was widely popular among children. He also played an investor in the drama “A Company is Not a School”, which completely changed his image. With his high level of acting ability, he is popular among people of all ages. If there is ever a time when Akira Kurosawa’s films are remade, I would love to see Mr. Matsuoka in it.
