Oniya, one of the three major fire festivals in Japan
Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture is famous for the Oniyo (devil’s night) of Daizenji Tamataregu. The festival is held from New Year’s Eve to January 7, and is one of the three major fire festivals in Japan, and is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Japan. The festival is worth seeing because of its dynamic aspect with the blazing flames and the heat of the venue.
